Mission: Newark educators' community charter school (neccs) is an engaging learning community. Neccs supports the holistic growth of children and educators. It is a place where culture, community, and professional knowledge come together. Neccs is committed to (1) create a safe learning environment for our students, staff, families and community, (2) believe that our students can and will achieve their highest potential, (3) present ourselves as consummate professionals for our students and families, (4) research best practices and promise to realize them in our classrooms, (5) support families who need our assistance, and (6) collaborate with all stakeholders for the betterment of our students.
Programs: During fiscal year 2016-2017, neccs provided a full range of educational services appropriate to grade levels pre-kindergarten through 4. This included regular student enrollment and children with special education needs. It completed the 2016-2017 fiscal year with an average daily enrollment of 295 students. Its service approach (1) created a sustainable positive school climate that is optimal for learning, (2)met the needs of the whole child (school, family, and community, (3) involved families and earning community support, (4) measured student achievement in multiple ways: new jersey state tests, written portfolios,reading and math assessments and social studies/science projects that demonstrate academic progress, (4) supported students as critical thinkers, and (5) developed in students the confidence to confront all challenges as a foundation for personal and academic success in school and beyond.
neccs provided nutritionally balanced, low cost or free meals to children each school day through its breakfast and lunch programs. The programs are federally and state assisted. In fy 2017, it also had after school program for working parents needing a safe learning environment for their children after school.
neccs implemented the no child left behind program. This program was enacted by congress to reauthorize the elementary and secondary education act with major focus on providing all children with fair, equal and significant opportunity to have a high quality education through enrichment activities.
