Mission: A grassroots membership-based organization building power for low and moderate-income communities in new york state.
Programs: Door-to-door work: nycc staff go door-to-door in low-to-moderate income communities to speak directly with community members about issues that are of concern to the community. In their conversations, nycc staff both provide information and education, as well as elicit input from community members as to which issues they feel are most important to resolve. Through this work, nycc is able to directly connect with the community members so as to be on the pulse of what needs to be addressed.
worker's rights: nycc addresses the concerns of low wage workers by educating them about their legal rights, facilitating health and safety trainings, developing leaders who can advocate on their own behalf, and providing english as a second language programs and job training. Nycc also surveys workers about their experiences on the job and then issues reports to inform policymakers about the needs of the workers in their communities. Workers join together through nycc to protect their rights and improve working conditions.
affordable housing: nycc has worked to address the foreclosure crisis, and to advocate for more affordable housing and tenant rights.
