Programs: The grassroots organizing program focuses on bringing people together to work for a more welcoming and just city as well as developing specific programs and policies in the city, state and country. We form small groups within immigrant congregations and ally congregations to share stories, analyze issues and develop leadership. The program includes 19 member congregations and during 2015 worked to educate both the public and government officials about issues impacting the immigrant community.
the accompaniment program is the only program in philadelphia that fosters long-term relationships between allied congregations and immigrant families to create transformational relationships and a strong faith-based network that participates in nsm's activities. The program connects families with trustworthy legal counsel, public witnesses on court dates, help navigating the detention system, and emotional and spiritual support.
the new leadership school is the first part of nsm's education program and is a five month course to train immigrant members of nsm to become stronger leaders and organizers who will serve as the foundation for a more organized base of community leaders. Topics include public speaking, facilitation, strategy development, team building, and leadership styles.
