Mission: To provide education and services to empower immigrants and refugees to be fully integrated into minnesota's growth and development. The organization envisions immigrants and their children serving as leaders in minnesota, while maintaining their cultural values and identity.
Programs: The organization's main focus is on their foreign trained health professionals (fthp) program. This program strides to promote economic self-sufficiency and advancement of immigrants who are foreign trained healthcare professionals in minnesota. The organization ensures that they get support to prepare and pass the licenser exams and practice in their healthcare profession in the united states. So far, the organization has registered over 200 foreign trained professionals from asia, africa, eastern europe, and latin and central america. Integrating fthp for self sufficiency project:the organization, in partnership with women's initiative for self empowerment (wise), as the lead agency through a grant from the federal office of refugee resettlement (orr) provide information & education, mentorship, scholarship and advocacy to refugees in minnesota who are foreign trained health care professionals. Alternative career pathway for fthp women project:this is a project founded by women's foundation of minnesota to wise in partnership with the organization. The goal of this project is to affect shifts in institutions and policies and thereby increase equality for foreign trained professional women in minnesota. Fthp advocacy project:funding from the headwaters foundation for justice enables the organization to disseminate information and provide educational activities, increasing/enhancing the power and advocacy skills of fthp and their immigrant community for system change and social justice. Headwaters' funding further facilitates the involvement and participation of community leaders, healthcare institutions and providers, and state legislators. Fthp eliminating health disparities project:this project is funded by the park nicollet foundation to promote self sufficiency and advancement of foreign trained health professionals, in order to assist timely and effective integration of new americans into minnesota healthcare system. The project provides recruitment, orientations, matching of professionals and peer mentors with healthcare professionals. Fthp mentorship project:this project is funded by the park nicollet foundation to promote self sufficiency and advancement of foreign trained health professionals, in order to assist timely and effective integration of new americans into minnesota healthcare system. International medical graduates residency project:the international medical graduates residency project a one year project funded by medtronic foundation through dr. Pat walker of the university of minnesota, medical school in partnership with the organization. The aim of the project was to research and document best practice to enhance access to medical residency in minnesota by foreign trained physicians.
