Programs: Neighborhood housing services of greater cleveland (nhs) continued to revitalize northeast ohio neighborhoods by providing programs and services that improve the communities and enhance the quality of life for residents. As one of the oldest and most effective community development corporations in the state, nhs provides a comprehensive assortment of counseling services to help homeowners remain in their homes, affordable housing opportunities for renter households, homeownership opportunities to address vacant and abandoned structures, stimulus in renovation or rehabilitation of vacant and abandoned structures, and incentive-based housing rehabilitation programs for greater cleveland residents, all while strengthening the demand for housing through marketing and purchase assistance resulting in stabilized neighborhood commercial districts through out the region. Our client base is 75% low-and moderate-income households, and our commitment to increasing homeownership through education, administrating down-payment assistance programs, providing free foreclosure and financial literacy counseling services and providing rehabilitation loans for emergency repairs, aid in the elimination of slums and blighted conditions in greater cleveland. We partner with the both public and private sectors to serve more than 5,000 customers each year. In our effort to build strong communities, we are led by a strong, diverse board of local residents representing the financial, legal, and nonprofit sectors, as well as representation from our consumer base. Program accomplishments include administrating our county's down payment assistance program, which provided 32 loans to low-to-moderate income families for a total amount of 480,255 for an average of 15,000 per household. Additionally, nhs was awarded a service contract to administer the city of lorain's down payment assistance program. Nhs staff counseled and educated 1,450 customers, created 173 new homeowners, prevented 84 property and tax foreclosures, disbursed 152,570 in home repair loans, preserved 45 homes, created and maintained 110 jobs, reported on almost 18 million on investments, reported a ratio of 53:1 on investment to total expendable and capital grants and generated over 580,000 in tax revenues to the economy.
