Mission: The center is comprised of a museum, omnisphere, aquarium, sales shop and zoo. The center is committed to excellence in science education by providing the community with a dynamic, experiential and family-focused attraction designed to inspire scientific curiosity and encourage personal discovery about life and the natural world.
Programs: Museum and zoo: the center hosted a traveling exhibit during the current year in addition to the permanent exhibits and the zoo which are offered year round. The center had more than 350,000 visitors for the fiscal year 6/30/15 to attend the museum and zoo. Future plans include upgrades to the museum and expansion of the zoo.
educational programs: the center had approximately 1,852 various educational programs for the fiscal year 6/30/15. The center offers summer and fall camps, public programs, behind the scene experiences, field trip programs and academic programs throughout the year. The number of visitors for the educational programs was approximately 79,000 for the fiscal year 6/30/15.
aquarium: nc's only center-of-state aquarium which offers a complete immersion experience. Visitors can engage with animal keepers and educators to learn about different species of animals and fish. In addition, behind-the-scenes experiences and educational scipods focus on the science of animal care, husbandry and water quality management. The sciquarium had more than 350,000 visitors for fiscal year 6/30/15.
