NAME is an extraordinary group.... It is 100% volunteer-driven organization of educator-activists for social justice in schools and communities. It is a community that includes a highly diverse membership: from p12 teachers to higher education scholars and researchers, community activists, cultural and advocacy organizations, students and deans, artists and scholars. They come from across the US and Canada, with a growing international membership. All are devoted to work to raise levels of equity and social justice. Expertise--and ongoing deep dialog--addressing multicultural pedagogy, curriculum and instructional strategies effectively address intersections with Issues of race, ethnicity, gender, language, ability, power, privilege, identity, etc. are the nature of the experience. NAME people are incredibly friendly, welcoming, outgoing and interested in collaborations, sharing, and outreach than any other professional group. Going to a NAME conference really is like a family reunion, even for the first time. The group also has over 20 local chapters, working as local resources and networks for multicultural issues.
