Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Autism Research, Health

Mission: The National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) was founded in 1994 by parents of children with autism concerned about the limited amount of biomedical research conducted into the causes, prevention, treatment and cure of the autism spectrum disorders.

NAAR has implemented a comprehensive strategy to stimulate and advance biomedical research in the autism. NAAR promotes research in autism by providing funding for (1) promising and innovative pilot studies (2) significant projects of established investigators and (3) fellowships and post-doctoral research.

NAAR also sponsors working groups of autism researchers, as well as providing assistance to brain bank sites and encouraging the pharmaceutical industry to develop treatment agents to individuals with autism.

All research proposals seeking funding from NAAR are reviewed by NAAR's distinguished Scientific Advisory Board, an all-volunteer SAB which determines the most promising research proposals.
