Mission: To manage nanog, an educational and operational forum collaborating to make the internet better through the coordination and dissemination of technical information related to backbone/enterprise networking technologies and operational practices.
Programs: Held 3 major conferences: nanog69 in washington dc, nanog70 in bellevue, wa, & nanog71 in san jose, ca - these conferences are networking conferences that provide opportunities for community members to further enhance networking discussions. Provided for a rich set of presentations exploring current and relevant topics. Nanog69 had 981 attendees, nanog70 had 1,185 attendees, and nanog71 had 1,321 attendees. 69,600 in donated services were used for these conferences.
the nanog college immersion (nci) program seeks to provide an entryway for higher education students to learn the world of network operations. There are many facets to this program which include tutorials, classes, keynotes, general session content, and tracks. In addition, there are regularly scheduled socials and events that may be of interest to those participating in nci. This program aims to provide the next-generation of network operators with an edge in today's highly competitive market. Fifty-seven students participated in this program in 2017.
nanog on the road events provide nanog content covering everything from technical services, the status of ipv6 adoption, current registry policy, to developments and hot topics in internet governance. It is a one-day event providing professional education and networking and is held in various locations on various dates throughout the year. The goal is to get those in attendance up to speed and solicit discussion topics that may not be on the agenda. There is also an optional "ask nanog" session which allows attendees to speak one-on-one with members of the board, program committee, and staff members who will share their experience and further explain the importance of nanog helping to make the internet better.
nanog hackathons are held the day before nanog meetings. This is an event bringing people together in a room to develop new ideas and hacks related to internet networking. Nanog also helps support networking and engineering education through scholarships. Nanog provides scholarships to students in a variety of areas including network engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications, and computer science.
