Programs: MSI is a dynamic initiative to care for and better understand the San Juan Mountains, one of Colorado's greatest assets. Through applied research, education and stewardship programs, we strive to go beyond scientific inquiry and promote meaningful application of knowledge and information that makes a difference in the quality of life for mountain communities and the environment in southwest Colorado. MSI was created to expand knowledge about mountain systems, their connections, and their environmental challenges, and to ensure that such knowledge is readily available to decision-makers and leaders to ensure a vibrant future for many generations to come.
We envision that through collaboration, our communities’ future in the San Juan Mountain region will thrive by preserving our heritage and preparing our youth to lead a resilient future. MSI focuses our work around four strategic goals to support our communities: (1) advance mountain science to innovate solutions; (2) promote mountain learning and scientific literacy; (3) develop leaders, citizens, and scientists for today and tomorrow; (4) collaborate with partners and strengthen communities.
