Mission: Mountain states foundation ("msf") supports mountain states health alliance in healthcare and bringing loving care to healthcare. Msf's vision is to generate public support and awareness, encourage financial support, build endowments, and enlist the philanthropic efforts of other organizations. Through the efforts of friends, volunteers, and team members, msf provides support to a number of causes that are important to the people of northeast tennessee. Helping bring health to life, mountain states foundation advances quality healthcare in the northeast tennessee region by linking friends with mountain states health alliance and creating a difference through giving.
Programs: Mountain states foundation ("msf") is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that supports mountain states health alliance ("msha"), a 501(c)(3) organization involved in healthcare and healthcare related services. Msf's vision is to generate public support and awareness, encourage financial support, build endowments, and enlist the philanthropic efforts of other organizations. This is essential to help assure continued excellence in healthcare and to help lessen the burden on patient charges for the funding of new facilities, equipment, services, medical education and indigent care. Through the efforts of friends, volunteers, and staff members, msf provides support to a number of causes that are very important to the people of northeast tennessee. The washington county foundationthe washington county foundation continues to provide support for the surrounding hospitals in the following capacities: johnson city medical center - the foundation is currently seeking support for a new icu healing garden. Franklin woods community hospital - the foundation continues to support them through our helping hands program. Woodridge hospital - the foundation provided funds for the expressive therapy program. Expressive therapy, at woodridge hospital, helps adult and pediatric patients, from small children to seniors, develop coping skills and learn new ways to express their emotions more productively to alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. These tools teach patients skills so they can continue to further their treatment even after their time at woodridge. Expressive therapy uses art, music, movement, creative writing and nature as part of the patient's treatment plan. The washington county foundation also participated in a matching grant for telemedicine. The niswonger children's hospitalniswonger children's hospital serves a population of more than 200,000 children in a 29-county region. The hospital was designed to provide for the unique needs of children and combines compassionate, personalized care with state-of-the-art technology. The foundation provides funding to the niswonger children's hospital each year for various needs such as giraffe isollettes, eeg equipment, and pediatric ambulances, to name a few. The foundation continues to provide additional pieces of equipment and other health-related needs in its ongoing effort to provide patient-centered care to the pediatric patients. Other programs supported by the foundation:growing healthygrowing healthy serves the six school systems of upper east tennessee. The program is committed to promoting healthy lifestyle choices through its efforts to help schools and communities effectively link health with educational achievement and improve students' overall well-being. Growing healthy focused its efforts on helping educators develop quality planning/instruction lessons that integrated health concepts within all curriculum areas in order to improve student health and achievement. Trainings were conducted for second and third grade teachers who attended several three-day in-service trainings where they received instruction on how to incorporate a resource-rich health curriculum that uses a variety of peripheral materials to engage and captivate their students in their classrooms. Teachers participating received training on how to enhance and incorporate the health curriculum with the new state common core standards and the increasing demands on state testing scores. Parish nursing programthe parish nurses provide individual/family health counseling sessions, health educational programs and make referrals to the health/social community. The nurses also assist the parishioners in navigating a complicated healthcare system, as well as being an advocate to them. Team member emergency fundthe team member emergency fund is a program supported by msha employees to support other team members who may suffer family tragedies and need short-term support. Msha has created a fund to provide for these needs. Programs of hopethe programs of hope include the circle of hope, helping hands, hospice, cancer and heart programs. Circle of hopethe circle of hope program was created in 1987 and provides financial support to cancer care patients. The program funds expenses such as gas vouchers, taxi fares, non-covered medications, nutritional expenses and personal care items. The program also has paid for other essentials - such as electric bills - depending on the patients' greatest needs. The helping hands programthe helping hands program was started in 2008 after discovering that many of our caregivers were taking money out of their pockets to help patients with a cab ride home, a meal in the cafeteria for a family member, or prescription assistance. The program currently operates in all 14 of our hospitals and is generously supported by our team members. Other programshospice is a service designed to help terminally ill patients and their families deal with such an illness at home and in the hospital. The cancer and heart programs provide prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services at various msha facilities. Msf supports the programs through education, equipment, and other resource needs. Mountain states foundation also developed a pediatric storytelling program to be used within mountain states health alliance. It is designed to provide the mountain states health alliance facilities improved patient healing and patient satisfaction through a healthcare storytelling program. This program is showcased in the dedicated storytelling channel with professional storytellers. The johnson county community foundation continues to support the hospital by providing new equipment such as the cardiac stress unit and upgrades to the facility such as the remodel of the rehabilitation department. It also participates in a matching grant for telemedicine. The sycamore shoals foundation board continues to support the hospital to meet patient needs for projects that help improve the patient experience at sycamore shoals hospital by creating a comforting, patient-centered care environment and provided funds for 3d digital mammography. Dickenson community hospital foundationthe dickenson community hospital foundation continues to support the hospital by providing equipment and furniture for the new inpatient geriatric behavioral health unit, participating in the niswonger radiothon, and participating in a matching grant for telemedicine. Johnston memorial hospital foundationthe johnston memorial hospital foundation continues to support the hospital by providing funding for a new 3d hd mammogram for the women's center, participating in a telemedicine matching grant program, and funding to outfit five pediatric rooms on the med/surg floor. Norton community hospital foundationnorton community hospital foundation has supported the hospital and the community by providing new furniture and upgrades to the norton community hospital oncology center, new wheelchairs for the healthplex center, and a telemedicine matching grant program. Russell county medical center foundationrussell county medical center foundation has provided funding to help upgrade the emergency room to make it more child-friendly and participated in a telemedicine matching grant program. Smyth county hospital healthtrustthe healthtrust has provided funding to support the smyth county remote area medical (ram) clinic, provided funding for diabetic day camps and participated in a matching grant for telemedicine. Indian path medical center foundationthroughout the year, indian path medical center foundation continues to support the hospital by providing furniture for the radiology waiting room, fetal monitor for the family birth center and a micro centrifuge for ultra-filtration of blood specimens for the lab.
