Mission: The missouri coalition against domestic and sexual violence (mcadsv) is the membership coalition of those working in the missouri movement to end violence against women and their children through direct services, social and systemic change. Founded in 1980, mcadsv has more than 100 member programs that provide services to victims of violence against women. Since its beginning, mcadsv has worked to ensure there is someone to talk to, some place to go and someone to help women victimized by violence when they need it most. Mcadsv's members-individuals and organizations from throughout the state-count on the coalition to provide them with the resources, training and expertise to further social justice in their own communities, as well as a unified voice at the state level to improve public policy, systems and responses to violence against women.
Programs: Training and education: the missouri coalition against domestic and sexual violence works to make sure that missouri's more than 100 domestic and sexual violence programs have the training and support they need to provide high quality, respectful services to survivors. Mcadsv coordinates an annual schedule of training events designed to help domestic and sexual violence service providers and allied professionals improve services available to survivors. In 2014, the coalition offered 112 separate training events throughout the state of missouri, training a total of 2,976 service providers. These events included statewide trainings; the coalition's three-day annual conference; the 2014 leadership institute; regularly scheduled regional trainings; on-site trainings for member programs; and community-based trainings.
mcadsv's successful public policy leadership in 2014 provided tangible results to address rape and abuse. The coalition's public policy successes were notable as a reflection of mcadsv's ongoing ability to build consensus and support among lawmakers and governmental officials despite divisive political divides and positions. Mcadsv advocacy in 2014 resulted in the the passage of legislation-without a single no vote cast in the missouri general assembly-to create orders of protection for sexual assault victims. This was a major enhancement to the laws that provide protection. Mcadsv again achieved bipartisan, unanimous support for another new law that increases the funds provided to domestic and sexual violence victims through the crime victims compensation program. Mcadsv also achieved the largest-ever increase in the state's budget by gaining an increase of $28 million in federal funds for services to sexual and domestic violence-a public policy achievement that began with mcadsv's many years of nonpartisan public policy advocacy with the u. S. House and senate.
technical assistance: mcadsv operates a toll-free helpline for missouri's advocacy community. Advocates can contact coalition staff to receive direct, problem-solving services in a variety of areas, from best practices and enhancing skills in providing direct services, to non-profit management and governance. In 2014, mcadsv staff responded to 1,744 requests for assistance from advocates and distributed 25,842 copies of mcadsv produced resources and publications.
