Causes: Home Improvement & Repairs, Homeless & Housing
Mission: The milwaukee christian center (mcc) builds strong neighborhoods full of opportunity throughout the city of milwaukee in four core areas: youth development, housing, older adults, and food security.
Programs: Housing: mcc strengthens neighborhoods and makes home-ownership possible by building new homes, making needed repairs on existing homes, and training young adults in the trades. In 2017, 23 young adults learned construction skills while building two homes. In addition, mcc had seven affordable homes under construction and made 18 repairs to low-income homeowners homes, making them safer places to live.
youth development: mcc empowers youth, ages 4-24, to succeed in school, workplaces, and the community through mentorship, leadership and workforce development, academic support, and through arts, athletics, technology, and the sciences. In 2017, mcc supported 1,530 youth during the school day, after school, and within summer programs at seven sites across the city. Food security: mcc provides food to 1,000+ adults and children in crisis each month, and connects families to support needed to become self-sufficient. In 2017, 13,579 individuals benefited from these services. Older adults: mcc offers 150+ older adults opportunities to remain healthy, in their homes, and vitally connected to the community. In 2017, hmong, lao, latino, african american, and white older adults benefited from services five days a week including: lunch, health checks, exercise, and recreational activities. Community organizing: mcc empowers residents who live on milwaukees near south side to transform their neighborhoods into successful, vibrant places to live. In 2017, residents developed and activated a new community green space and connected neighbors through a variety of community events.
