Mission: The mid-south sculpture alliance seeks to advance the understanding that sculpture educates; effects social change; and engages artists, art professionals, the community in dialogue, and by promoting a supportive environment for sculpture and sculptors.
Programs: Mid-south sculpture alliance (msa) is a non-profit arts organization which is supported by its one hundred plus members and is dedicated to the creation and awareness of sculpture in its many and varied forms. During 2017 msa undertook three juried members exhibitions including indoor exhibtions at the association of visual arts in chattanooga, tennessee and lexarts in lexington kentucky and one large scale outdoor exhibition at riverwalk chattanooga, tn. The riverwalk exhibition includes ten sculptures that will be on display through 2019. Each artist selected received a $5,000 stipend. Msa awarded two scholarships for outstanding achievement of $500 each to cassidy frye, mfa student from university of tennesse and stephane loggans, bfa student from university of tennessee, chattanooga. Both scholarship recipients exhibited in the ava and lexarts exhibitions and gave a presentation of their work during the msa confab which was held at watkins college in nashville, tn in october. Confab was a one day event that featured presenter john powers, recent guggenhiem fellow and sculpture professor at university of knoxville. Mr. Powers was both the keynote speaker and particpated in an emerging artist panel along with ariel lavery, watkins sculpture professor, leticia bajuyo, texas a&m sculpture professor, and brian jobe, artist, educator, independent curator and co-director of locate arts. Eva conwell also spoke about sculpture conservtion pratctices at the confab.
