Mission: The museum brings art and people together for enjoyment, discovery, and learning. We strive to create a place where people of every background can be touched by art. We are committed to exhibitions and programs that will strengthen and sustain our community.
Programs: The art museum provides art and art history instruction classes in partnership with various schools throughout east texas, including early child-hood children to college and university students. Programs and tours can be interactive or hand-on, as requested. The museum also sponsors numerous exhibits, including its own collections and that of outside artists and / or other museums. Perhaps one of the most unique for this year was "caddo exposed" (july 9 - september 3, 2015). Caddo lake is unique! No other body of water in texas remotely resembles it. Being the only naturally formed lake in texas, it supports the largest flooded cypress forrest anywhere. Visually stunning with its spanish moss-draped trees and its abundance of wildlife, (from rare birds to alligators) for two years six renowned photographers turned their lenses on the lake, resulting in an exhibition of 33 diverse and engaging photograph prints. The michelson continues to provide summer art classes throughout the summer months to students of all ages (at no charge to the students).
