Mission: MCC San Jose, founded in 1972, is a member of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC), a denomination which was founded in 1968 to minister to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendere people who had been excluded from their spiritual institutions. MCCSJ's mission is to "celebrate our individual wholeness and together create a nurturing atmosphere that fosters forgiveness, healing and joyous living.
Programs: MCC SJ provides a ministry for all people, but especially to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendere people, many who have been excluded from their spiritual communities. Our ministries include Inreach, Healing, Laity, Outreach, Enrichment and Music & Fine Arts. Inreach includes social functions and hospitality. Healing includes a variety of opportunities for healing of the mind, body and spirit such as Reiki and healing breathwork. Training is also available in these healing methos. Laity includes the Deacons who assist the Pastors in ministering to the poor, sick and imprisoned. Outreach includes involvement in Social Justice issues and working together with other community organizations to promote the treatment of humanity with compassion and respect. Enrichment includes education and other opportunities through classes, workshops, retreats and resources. Music and Fine Arts includes the expression of spirituality through music, dance, drama and other forms of creative expression.
