Mission: The mission of mhca-ri is to provide peer support, to inform and educate people about the stigmatization of mental illness, and to positively affect the lives of our fellow consumers through legislation action and other advocacy campaigns.
Programs: The agency maintains the oasis advocacy and social center where mental health clients come for meals, activities, educational programs, and any other assistance they need. The population served has doubled over the last three years to almost 3000 members.
the agency operates the consumers for self reliance program in south county, a program similar to the oasis center. To date the agency has provided emergency shelter to 65 individuals.
the agency operates two shelters that accomodate ten men and ten women. Since opening in 2007, they have served nearly 60 people. Twelve have graduated from the program and moved into their own apartments.
