I've had the privilege of working with Megan's Wings for the past 4 yrs. This nonprofit provides a great deal of help to families whose children have cancer. The Savage family has experienced the pain of personally going through this hardship, and are deeply aware of what these families need. It's truly been an honor to represent JustServe in supporting Megan's Wings. We will continue to support them in any way we can!
Easily of the best childhood cancer foundations/organizations out there. They help with the many unseen issues we face that are extremely stressful during these challenging years of treatment. We’d be in very bad place without their help. There’s so many more hardships people don’t know beyond getting your kids to the hospital. Kimberly has been so supportive and kind to our family. I can’t thank Megan’s Wing’s enough for their help. When we are in a position to pay it forward I know I will be giving them money that will go to families that really need help. They’ve helped us with gas to get our child to treatment, a huge expense. They’ve helped us when we couldn’t pay our bills. They even jumped in when we were displaced by a wildfire and had to evacuate for a week. Evacuating was a huge unexpected expense that almost put us under financially. Thank you to everyone who has contributed or helped Megan’s Wings so that they can help families struggling through childhood cancer.
Megan's Wings has been an AMAZING support for our patients and families. Their co-founder Kim is always willing to help and goes above and beyond. We are absolutely thankful for all of the support she and Megan's Wings provides. They are AMAZING!!
Megan's Wings goes above and beyond to support patients and families from initial diagnosis to survivorship or end of life! Time and time again, Megan's Wings has helped families with urgent needs. They also bring joy to patients and families through holiday programs and wish trips. So grateful to partner with this amazing organization!
I have volunteered at Megan’s Run for several years. It has been a privilege to volunteer my time each year because I know the impact Megan’s Wings organization will have on families.
Megan’s Wings has always been available to help any family in need. A big part of their mission is to provide families with needed resources such as gas cards and utility payment so parents can focus on their child going through cancer treatment. Thank you for taking care of others through your generous non-profit work!!
Megan's Wings is my go to resource for my pediatric cancer patients. Kim, is always so attentive to the families' needs. Megan's Wings goes above and beyond for our Pediatric Oncology team providing assistance for the unforeseen social and financial barriers families face their child is diagnosed with cancer. Megan's Wings helps are families all year around I can not expressed my gratitude enough.
Hi this organization has helped me multiple times. First time around they helped for a Christmas dinner for my family and I last year this year 2020 they helped me with a grocery card again and with rent money since we’ve been behind because of COVID. I’m deeply grateful for this organization and they’re work to help families struggling with childhood cancer
My Richie was loved by all and had many goals in life. Through the kindness of Meagan Wings, he was able to enjoy a play from his favorite Movie Beauty and the Beast. He fought a hard battle and i by his side. Not wanting to leave his side, I was blessed to have the pantry as a source to sustain my nourishment and strength to be close by him. He loved his nurses that Meagans wings made it possible to gift the nurses a representation of his love for them a”Rebozo” a scarf a representation swaddling garment of their tender care for him. It was hard to say goodbye at the end, but Meagans Wing stepped up helped me bury my son with dignity. I am forever grateful to Meagans Wings. Hope many more can help especially during these uncertain times. Love Tichies Mom Dor Luna
I remember this one particular time during the holiday season when I was speaking with a family about a referral to Megan's Wings for holiday gift adoption. This was family struggling to make ends meet while taking care of a child who was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. The parents hadn't had the opportunity to provide Christmas presents for their kids for the past couple years because most of their resources were going to paying for costs related to cancer treatment. They were so thankful, appreciative, and amazed at the gift adoption event that Megan's Wings put together. It was such a gift to them during such a difficult time.
Another time, I had a single mom who had been struggling to make rent because she had to stop working to take care of her sick child. We had worked on so many different resources and she wasn't sure what to do because she really wanted to go to work but was forced to stay at home. I spoke with Megan's Wings and their foundation graciously provided rental assistance, which helped this mom focus on her child without having to think about the stress of making her bills. Her child is still on treatment but doing much better now, and this mom has returned to work. Megan's Wings helped support this family during a very challenging and stressful time, thus allowing them to maintain stability and now thrive in their community.
Thank you Megan's Wings for all that you do! Our hospital is so thankful for all the support that you provide to our kiddos and our families.
Megan’s Wings was founded in 2005 by the parents of little Megan, a 9-year-old beautiful, sweet courageous girl, who died of leukemia in 2003.
I had the great honor and privilege of knowing Megan and the family, since I was her oncologist in Kaiser Fontana.
Her parents wanted to help children and families who have to go through cancer therapy to help to ease their pain and suffering.
They started this wonderful organization, deeply rooted from the Love they have in their hearts forever for Megan, to ensure her legacy lives on.
They are not just “ another” organization with an obviously good cause, they understand so well what the children have to face during their journey and how these parents feel and struggle with many issues.
I could never ask for anything “ too big or difficult “ over the years Megan’s Wings would not do for these patients, e.g. bills to pay, house rent, clothing, food, school supplies, toys and I can go on.
I could see the transformation from the tears and worry to shiny, happy smiles when the little 4-year-old girl could have a pretty, pink bicycle with a big bow for her birthday, which her Mom could have never been able to afford. They lived in a shelter initially, then in a small apartment, barely making living.
So many beautiful memories, the happy times of Thanksgiving providing packages of a full turkey dinner from an upscale Italian restaurant from Upland, Spaggi’s and other places to so many families.
Megan’s Wings has many wonderful programs, like the “Adopt a family “to make sure the children and their siblings had their Christmas wishes come through and everybody would get presents.
Many of the patients with long battle with cancer became well known for the organization, as they embraced them with love., like a family member.
Remember the sweet, shy, quiet adolescent girl from Mexico, with loving parents and limited financial resources. Her father had 2-3 jobs to provide their living.
She came with advanced cancer, needed lots of therapy, but always smiled and encouraged, inspired all of us with her endurance and courage and beautiful Spirit.
I will never forget her radiant, happy smile one day, when she was presented with lot s of gifts and a brand new bicycle, she secretly dreamed about.
There were so many children who had healing smoothies with supplements, vitamins provided by Megan’s Wings to keep them healthy and strong during therapy.
Megan’s Wings recently initiated a program to promote fitness and wellness for children with cancer, helped them to get quality sport education, marshal arts, dancing etc.
It helped the 8-year-old boy with leukemia to learn to swim and try to loose weight in a nice swim club for children.
The 11 year old little girl with recurrent cancer who loved dancing was able to join a local dance studio with her little sister. These were not possible for this family before, having 4 children and only one income. She was so happy. She could only go for a few times and then had to stop because of new challenges of her disease.
Nevertheless her dream, even just for a short time came through.
I remember the thin 6-year-old little boy with bone cancer, who wanted a little bike or a small car.
His wish came through one day and had a small electric car, which he could still drive, though was not able to walk any more. I will never forget the tears of joy in the father’s eyes, when he was presented with the car.
The list is endless.
I can only think of Megan’s Wings with great appreciation and gratitude.
This is the organization with a tremendous heart. They create “Magic”, help the children to live their dreams and most of all these families could feel they are not alone, they are loved and there are people who care about them and help in desperate times.
I know the memory and Love of little Megan lives on and continues to touch so many lives in a beautiful way.
Thank you Megan’s Wings for everything you do for the children,
Love,
Dr Horvath
This non profit organization has grown so much and it is very heart warming to see them help families in need during difficult times.
Megan's Wings is an organization that was formed from the heart to honor a young girl who died of a horrific blood cancer after years of fighting through treatment and relapse. Her parents formed the non-profit to help parents and children as they face the challenges of cancer and cancer treatment, the goal being to ease the pain they knew through their own experience. The organization helps with the cost of transportation to treatment, housing while staying away from home for treatment, the cost of groceries, and funds to fill in the income gap when a parent must quit their job to stay with a child in the hospital through treatment as well as many more things. This is accomplished by a team of dedicated volunteers and the non-profit leaders. As a cancer patient myself, I KNOW how important the good work of this organization is and I support it generously as often as I can.
When my son was battling cancer Megan’s wings was really there for us. Megan’s wings had great classes for the parents and fun activities for the kids. The emotional support provided and financial assistance the gave us was the most helpful. I was on an unpaid leave from work, and they helped us with a few months of partial house payments, they also gave me gift cards for groceries and gas. They are generous, kind, loving people who helped me get through the worse time in my life. I highly recommend Megan’s Wings.
Megan's Wings came into our lives when our 3 year-old son was having a bone marrow transplant. Not only were were going through that, but we were expecting our second child at the same time. With no family nearby, we were at a loss as to what to do. My husband needed to continue working and I needed to be in the hospital isolation room with my son during transplant. When the baby was born, Megan's Wings helped us out by supporting us financially so that we could afford trustworthy childcare for our newborn. It was a truly hard thing to do, but to know that we had this financial support that allowed us to help our 3 year-old fight through transplant while our new born was safe and happy, was priceless. My heart will be forever grateful to Kim Savage and her efforts with Megan's Wings.
My girlfriend's son had been fighting leukemia for 10 months before ultimately succumbing to it. She has been left penniless because of the long fight, and on top of everything has to pay for funeral expenses out of pocket. It has been a struggle to come up with the money, and she has to take out a short term loan, on top of having to deal with the passing of her son. It has been so incredibly difficult, and her sons social worker had sent her a grant request form for Megan's Wings. We sent it in and within twenty four hours we received the kindest, most heartfelt phone call from Kim Savage, letting us know they had contributed $500 to the funeral expenses. It touched us greatly, and we are so thankful to such a kind and caring organization
