The Matecumbe Historical Trust is dedicated to the preservation of the historical and anthropological legacy of the Florida Keys. It is as "grassroots" as you are likely to find. Membership includes original pioneer family members and their descendents as well as those interested members of this unique community. The organization has galvanized around the Irving R. Eyster family, that has contributed so much over the last fifty years. They founded the trust in order to share the island heritage with everyone and preserve it for posterity. The Eysters have performed countless hours researching and documenting the historical events and anthropological culture of the Keys. The Trust is now engaged in the creation of the Irving R. Eyster Historical Museum of the Florida Keys. It will be a repository for the many artifacts, documents and photographs that come from Mr. Eyster's lifelong collections as well as from many other sources. The Trust is currently involved in fundraising efforts to make this dream become a reality.
