Mission: Massachusetts biomedical initiatives (mbi) is a private non-profit corporation which provides life science incubator labs thereby supporting the growth and expansion of biotechnology and medical device companies, enhancing the status of massachusetts as the world leader in the medical industry. By creating the right environment for the biomedical industry to expand and grow, mbi has become a national model for leveraging public sector funds with private sector investments to fuel economic development. Our goal is to assist in building the medical industry in massachusetts by promoting the commercialization of our region's academic and science research to develop new biotechnology, medical device, and pharmaceutical companies. We encourage entrepreneurs and work with establised companies to also expand existing operations.
Programs: Massachusetts biomedical initiatives (mbi) operates three life science incubator laboratory facilities in worcester located 40 miles west of boston. The gateway park project is an 11-acre development which features up to one million square feet of mixed-use space. The gateway park region is currently home to numerous businesses, offices, restaurants, business services and a hotel. In partnership with worcester polytechnic institute life sciences center and bioengineering institute, the newly constructed four story 124,600 square foot facitlity houses mbi's ground floor,modern incubator with laboratories, offices and shared equipment which are available for lease to start-up life sciences businesses. The facility is also adjacent to the university's bioengineering institute, which plays a central partnership role in the incubator program by encouraging the commercialization of science. 55 union streeet, worcester plays a key role in facilitating technology transfer from academic research to commercial application by attracting the resources of major corporations and encouraging the growth of small, promising companies. This incubator facility has all the amenitities needed for a new life sciences company to get started and grow. Modern laboratories, offices and shared equipment are all located in a professional scientific setting. Mbideas barber avenue, located at the intersection of routes i190 and 290 for easy highway access, this mbi incubator facitly houses numerous laboratories (of all sizes), offices, conference room and kitchen areas. Shared equipment and cold room are also avialable for tenant company use. A true spirit of life science entrepreneurial support is the trademark of this lab site which enhances the scientist's commercialization success.
