Causes: Civil Rights, Crime & Law, Public Interest Law
Mission: To promote equal rights and opportunities for massachusetts residents by developing and advocating for systemic solutions to social justice issues.
Programs: "school discipline": completed the report "school discipline in massachusetts: how are we doing? " based on data collected by department of elementary and secondary education (dese) on the results of the implementation of chapter 222 in its first year. Ma appleseed also distributed our guide published in 2015 entitled, "when my child is disciplined at school: a guide for massachusetts families" to a variety of parent groups across the state.
"access to justice": developed a partnership with the ma courts and began researching issues related to available on-line legal assistance for self- representatives and the ideal design and content for a "virtual" court self-help center (referred to as a virtual "court service center").
"homeless youth": - appleseed continued its policy work on issues related to youth homelessness, including serving on the unaccompanied youth homelessness commission and serving as co-chair of the post-secondary homeless youth network.
