Mission: Develop and maintain statewide partnership of individuals committed to improved health among all marylanders through increased oral health prevention, education, advocacy and access to dental care.
Programs: Md department of health and mental hygiene: this grant supports continued implementation of the maryland oral health plan (mohp) by collaborating with the office of oral health to develop training workshops and modules focused on oral health literacy and dental sealants programs; assess, improve and expand the oral health literacy campaign (ohlc), healthy teeth, healthy kids,; continue to develop and expand community outreach materials and activities; provide health care professionals in medicine, nursing and dentistry with enhanced literacy skills and interaction tools to better communicate messages about oral health promotion to populations in need; develop and implement a bi-annual continuing education (ce) credit training program focused on oral health and pulbic health topics; track and inform local health departments about grant opportunities; and host a one day medical/dental symposium.
oral health 2020: mdac convened traditional and non-traditional partners to share with, and learn from, each other to expand oral health programming to underserved communities. The focus is on improving oral health literacy and collaboration among medical and dental professions to benefit mothers/caregivers of children under age 6 and pregnant women. Marylands oral health literacy campaign is being extended to new audiences and a companion spanish campaign was developed. Through the partner networks, nearly 51,000 healthy teeth, healthy kids brochures were distributed, over 12,000 individuals and over 600 professionals and para-professionals (pediatricians, nurses, outreach workers, etc. ) received oral health education/training. Mohla provided oral health resources for all 186 public libraries and 7 health science libraries in maryland. During children's dental health month, over 4,600 children were reached.
the horizon grant program is to educate and teach the oral health profession to talk to their patients about the effects of consumption of sugary beverages on their oral health and their overall health.
