Programs: Breakfast with the clergy - on january 16, 2017 approx 264 participants representing more than 20 churches and organizations gathered for the 9th annual breakfast on mlk jr day. The goal was to recognize the work community churches individually and collectively have done to promote and extend dr king's legacy. A clergy of the year was recognized and one of the clergy presented an inspirational message.
unity day program - on january 16, 2017 several hundred participants attended a day-long celebration of the legacy of dr martin luther king jr with awards, speeches, music and variety performances. Activities included the premier showing of "sons of barak," which documents a sampling of the young men of indiana who have been inspired to pursue public service careers as a consequence of the president's achievement. A nationally acclaimed interpreter of dr. King's speeches presented a stirring oration of his speech at the conclusion of the march from selma to montgomery, "how long, not long. "
civil rights bus trip to washington dc - on july 14-16, 2017 two buses with 102 participants traveled to our nation's capital with the primary purpose of visiting the newly-opened national museum of african-american history and culture (nmaahc). The visitors also toured the monuments at the mlk memorial end of the national mall, had a guided tour of the nation's capitol and enjoyed the atmosphere and food in washington dc's union station. Civil rights bus trip to underground railroad museum, cincinnati, oh - on october 21, 2017 one bus with 54 travelers spend a day in cincinnati at the museum that celebrates the underground railroad's contribution especially the strategic part cincinnati played in helping countless individuals reach freedom.
santa on tour - on saturday, december 9 more than 100 children from the neighborhood were treated to a christmas celebration with a gift from santa and an on-the-spot photo, lunch, music, stories, and a trolley ride through down-town fort wayne to see the christmas decoration and lights of the city. This is a very popular event for our volunteers, 25 of them this year, who love seeing all the smiling faces of our youngest people. Youth committee events - on february 18, 2017 the club's youth committee sponsored a mixer at fort wayne african african-american museum that gathered 30 young adults together with 20 invited adult professionals. The goal was to start a conversation between our young people and potential mentors about opportunities and leadership in the future.
