Mission: To support the renovation and transformation of the former gaillard auditorium into the new charleston gaillard center through private donations to match public funds and generous gifts.
Programs: Raising awareness and financial resources in support of the private share portion of the construction budget of the gaillard center project in the city of charleston, south carolina. Upon completion of construction to support the programs and ongoing operations of the gaillard center. The project was a unique private-public partnership is allowing the community of charleston the opportunity to build a new 142-million gaillard center that will address simultaneously a diverse and important set of needs. The neo-classical building, designed by david m. Schwarz architects of washington, d. C. , will encompass a world-class performance hall reminiscent of old european opera houses; a flexible elegant exhibition space; and consolidated, efficient municipal offices, all surrounded by beautiful manicured gardens and event lawns. The gaillard center offers residents, businesses and visitors, children, the elderly and disabled, a communal space that will bring people together with ease, energize projects and ideas, and make new things and thinking possible. The gaillard center was seeded by generous private contributions, to be matched by others, to be an epicenter of inspiration, imagination, and collaboration for the entire community. Every dollar of donor contribution goes directly toward the cost of this vital project. The gaillard center opened on october 18, 2015. Upon completion the foundation supports the operations and programs of the gaillard center at the direction of its board of directors.
the future founder's program is an endeavor to ensure that the new gaillard center fulfills its promise and opportunity to exposes all local school-age children to the performing arts. We wish to foster in the children of our community an appreciation for the role that the arts play in our individual lives as well as the life of our civilization. The program is working to build financial, as well as cultural, support to make the gaillard center the greatest catalyst it can be for the arts education of our children. We expect the gaillard center to renew our community's interest in the performing arts; to encourage new and more residents into the fold of charleston's arts world; and to give our performing arts community a new home in which to grow and blossom with renewed vigor and greater audiences. The program wants to maximize the opportunity, now and into the future. The future founder's program seeks to: 1)schedule a diverse and regular programs that will make it possible for every child to see a performance every year in our new world-class performance hall; 2) develop an arts appreciation curriculum, in conjunction with the local school districts, for children's study before and after performances; 3)enabling artists and others involved in the performance arts to spend time with children in the classroom for lessons and workshops; 4)providing materials and technological opportunities such as live streaming to connect children to events taking place at the gaillard center; and 5)develop financial resources to provide transportation from schools to events and other financial aid as needed for children to connect to the arts.
