Causes: Education
Mission: Marcy open school parent council is the parent organization of the school. Thecouncil provides parents with the opportunity for trainings, to air their views and ask questions, and is an opportunity for community building with other parents. It also conducts fundraising activities to provide funds for educational programs and activities otherwise not included in the school budget.
Programs: During the 2016-17 school year, the marcy parent council hosted a fall carnivalfor the marcy community and two scholastic book fairs to promote reading. Themarcy parent council also raised funds by holding a spring plant sale, fallmagazine sale, spring t-shirt design competition, peace necklace sale, yard sign sale, an annual fund request, continued sale of labyrinth bricks, rocks, and benches for a peace path and the marcy arts partnership gala event. Funds raised by the marcy parent council were used to support learning for students in classrooms by providing financial support to classroom teachers, classroom specialists (science, physical education, music, graphic arts) and the school principal. Several arts programs were funded to include all grade levels, k-8. Art programs included collaborative classes in theater, music, folk dancing, puppetry and a school musical production. Parent council funds also support administration of an online student directory, student council, student recruitment, graduation, staff appreciation and volunteer appreciation. Special requests were funded including assistance with field trips inclding all 5th graders going to wolf ridge, a rollerskating pary for the special education classes, improvements to the peace garden, a washer and dryer for the maintenance staff. Marcy parent council hosts monthly meeetings in conjunction with the marcy site council. The meetings are attended by both parents and staff.
