Causes: Child Abuse Prevention, Crime & Law, Domestic Violence
Mission: Malama Na Keiki Foundation was established because of the desperate need for a long-term, stable source of funding for Hawaii's child abuse and neglect prevention programs. Historically, these programs have depended on state and federal funding, but budget cuts have meant that only 1 in 4 families who need support are getting it. As a result, cases of child abuse and neglect in Hawaii have increased in number and severity. Funds are raised through the solicitation of planned gifts such as bequests, gifts of life insurance and IRAs, life estates and charitable remainder trusts. Malama Na Keiki Foundation currently supports 11 organizations statewide and has raised $2.3 million to be used to strengthen at-risk families.
