Causes: Health, Specifically Named Diseases
Mission: The purpose of the lyme disease biobank is to advance knowledge of the etiology progression and treatment of lyme disease and other tick-borne infections and to disseminate that knowledge to prevent, diagnose, and treat such diseases and illnesses. Currently, the lyme disease biobank implements its mission through the development of a lyme disease biorepository.
Programs: The lyme disease biobank (ldb) is completing its fourth year of sample collection with 457 total samples. In 2017, we collected 190 samples (98 cases and 92 controls) from four sites (east hampton ny, marshfield wi, mountain view ca, and boston ma) with the boston, ma facilitating the collection of additional presentations of lyme disease, including lyme arthritis, lyme carditis, neuroborreliosis, and post-treatment lyme disease. While our work has focused on collection of early, acute lyme disease samples, we recognize the importance of tissue collection in later stages of lyme disease. A new partnership with national disease research interchange (ndri) formed this year will help us institute a program for surgical and post-mortem tissue donation for patients with lyme disease.
