Programs: Animal care - Our shelter is the area's leading animal resource. In 2023, 854 animals were adopted to new homes, and 591 animals were spayed through our assistance program. 279 lost animals were reunited with their owners. 341 animals were returned to their owners. 315 cats were spayed or neutered through our Trap-Neuter-Return program targeting feral cat populations. Numerous animals were spayed or neutered through the SPCA program. This is an increase in spay/neuter assistance of 44%. There was a decrease in cat euthanasia of 30% in 2017. 365 cats and kittens were placed in foster homes until adopted. A barn cat program has been established for cats that are not social but not aggressive.
Pet cemetery/ crematorium - the organization maintains, in perpetuity, a pet cemetery that has been in service for over fifty years. Cremation services are also provided.
Animal investigative services - investigation of reports of animal abuse/neglect and enforcement of Pennsylvania animal cruelty laws. The shelter ambulance responded to 450 calls.
Education and community outreach - educated people in the methods of caring for and protecting animals. Community outreach is provided to schools, clubs, and other community organizations. Employee and volunteer representatives made presentations at schools. Shelter tours were conducted throughout the year for humane education. Volunteers made visits to area nursing homes for pet therapy. Volunteers contributed more than 5,167 hours for the benefit of community outreach and animal care. Volunteers participated in community events. A summer camp for children aged 6-13 was conducted for six weeks.
