Mission: Lutheran music program, incorporated in 1981, is a nebraska nonprofit corporation whose mission is to transform lives and connect people through music. The organization addresses this mission primarily through its month-long lutheran summer music academy & festival, a music training and performance program for young musicians of all faith backgrounds. The organization embraces the following organizational values: musical excellence, lutheran faith, and nurturing community; and, the organization's vision is churches and communities renewed through music for the sake of the world.
Programs: The principle activity of lutheran music program is the lutheran summer music academy & festival (lsm). Lsm brings together 150+ talented young instrumentalists and singers (grades 8-12) from throughout the u. S. For rigorous musical training and performance. Lsm students engage in a comprehensive and diverse program of training and performance: individual instrument lessons; chamber ensembles; jazz and early music ensembles; musicianship classes; symphony orchestra, choir and/or band; electives like composition, conducting, intro to organ, handbells, and musical theater; and a culminating festival of performances. Lsm is one of the nation's premier training and performance programs for talented young musicians of all faith backgrounds. What makes lsm unique is that this exploration of musical gifts is grounded in a supportive community that seeks the intersection of music and spirituality. In 2016 the organization launched sounds of summer institute (sosi). A program similar in scope and anticipated outcomes sosi is two weeks in length and helps address concerns of students and parents who want the lsm experience, but do not have four weeks in the summer. Lutheran music program produces and presents more than 50 recitals and concerts each year in conjunction with lsm, and dozens more performances around the country each year. All of these musical presentations are free and open to the general public. The 2017 lsm recital series featured performances by omega string quartet, mov? Re woodwind quintet, praetorius brass ensemble, and the sine nomine vocal ensemble, in addition to dozens of solo and collaborative faculty and student performances. Full concerts by the lsm festival band, choir and orchestra drew 800 guests per event. All lmp programs are designed to renew churches and communities through music for the sake of the world.
