Causes: Down Syndrome, Down Syndrome Research, Health
Mission: To stimulate biomedical research that will accelerate the development of treatments to significantly improve cognition for individuals with down syndrome.
Programs: Emory university school of medicine -- continuation and expansion of the down syndrome cognition project (dscp) will significantly increase recruitment of individuals with ds to determine and document variability of cognitive function in ds associated with developmental id as well as correlations with co-occurring medical conditions and identify genetic factors associated with the variability and correlations critical for new therapeutic development.
univeristy of connecticut - trisomy 21 (t21) is the most frequent viable aneuploidy in humans (1 in 700 live births), and causes down's syndrome (ds) through increased gene dosage from chromosome 21. Ds encompasses a range of phenotypes that affect anatomy, cognition, as well as cardiovascular and endocrine systems. The main goal of this project is to create a dual-use genetic resource for addressing fundamental and translational questions in down syndrome research.
massachusetts institute of technology - expansion of it's commitment to down syndrome studies will help provide funds to create a generation of mit researchers trained to work in the fields of ds and cutting-edge neuroscience techniques, while expanding a new research area at mit, and building a collaborative approach that will encourage greater awareness and involvement with ds research by faculty at mit and with other leading research institutions.
