homeless initiative:the lucky duck foundation is supporting temporary bridge shelters, proposed by two foundation board members, san diego padres managing partner, peter seidler and restauranteur dan shea. The first bridge shelter at 16th street and newton avenue opened on december 1, 2017 and will serve 350 single adults. It has bathrooms, showers, 24-hour security and wifi. Its managed by the nonprofit alpha project and will have case workers and health professionals on duty. The second large tent shelter for san diegos homeless went into operation on december 22, 2017 on sports arena boulevard in the midway district. It is designed to house up to 200 veterans and will be operated by veterans village of san diego. The goal of the shelters is to provide temporary housing for up to 120 days while residents search for permanent lodging.
one act of kindness san diego:one act of kindness san diego (1aoksd) is a lucky duck foundation initiative, raising awareness and funds for san diego countys homeless population, one day and one dollar at a time. Funds raised will provide support to the thousands of individuals and families living on the streets of san diego county, aiding in relief from the harsh conditions associated with being homeless. The lucky duck foundation provides leadership and management of funds donated to the 1aoksd initiative for every day necessities of life. The lucky duck foundation is currently collecting funds for socks, toiletries and med-naps (cleaning wipes help prevent the spread of hepatitis a). Our goal is to distribute 30,000 bottles of water and 15,000 med-naps per month over the next twelve months. Ideally we would have 7,500 pairs of socks available quarterly as well.
