Mission: Our mission is to save and enhance lives through organ and tissue donation for transplantation. Lopa was formed by four institutions--ochsner, tulane, lsu south, and lsu north--to service a medical need that was not being met in this community. Lopa is the only organization that procures organ and tissue donations from donors at the time of their death to use for transplantation on other patients. Lopa oversees the procurement process as well as the environmental conditions and handling of the organs and tissues both prior to delivery and during delivery for transplant. Lopa also arranges the histo-compatibility testing at the four transplant centers to match organs and tissues with prospective recipients.
