Causes: Job Training
Mission: The vision for louisiana green corps is to be a social, environmental, and economic change agent for the region. Louisiana green corps will provide pathways to upward mobility and civic particpation through operating a conservation corps that provides training and education services, advocacy and environmentally restorative projects in the community.
Programs: Youth education & training programthe jefferson parish workforce investment board funds louisiana green corps youth construction and conservation corps. This program engages 18 to 21 year old jefferson and orleans parish residents and prepares them for employment of post-secondary education through an intensive sixteen week program of academics, supportive services, life skills training, construction certification training and hands on service learning opportunities. During the 2014-2015 fiscal year this program operated 3 sessions, serving a total of 36 participants.
summer transition programthe office of the mayor of new orleans supported the louisiana green corps school-to-community transition project. The objective of the project is to provide a holistic approach to life skills and environmental literacy for youth ages 14 to 18 with special needs. Participants were engaged in classroom learning, games, field trips and hands-on learning activities on service learning project sites. During the 2014-2015 fiscal year this program served 8 participants.
