My wife and I have talked to them about their plans for continued development, and the progress they have made thus far, and have spent time with their animals. We have seen Longhorn Hideout members involved in many community events, parades, and activities with the local school. They seem like genuine people who are driven to serve others. I will continue to support their mission and be an advocate for them and their goals.

I have been active in supporting this great non-profit for 2 years here in Kanab. It takes a long time to get things all available when you start out from scratch. The founders, Joe and Carol Lamica are doing a great job. More exciting things are being added with much support from other people in the community. We owe a debt of gratitude to all our veterans whether they have made the ultimate sacrifice, retired or currently serving . I am disgusted at those who don't support our heros that fight to keep America free and the rude people that have said hateful things and some just plain lies about this retreat. You know they are lying when they aren't even man enough to give their name ! I have a grandson still serving that was on the Korean dmz for the last 3 years and I will always love and respect our military. Keep up the great work Joe and Carol ! From: Linda S. Kanab resident for 25 years and staunch supporter of our Military !

I live not far away from this retreat, and while it's still in the works of being built, this couple is devoted in making sure injured soldiers have a safe place to travel to, visit, stay, whatever they want. They give so much to the community, and while I'm sure they have "bills" to pay, I'm positive EVERY DIME SPENT, IS TO MAKE SOME SORT OF IMPROVEMENT!!! The animals alone, make this place a must see! And donations like ours help them get this retreat up and going! Keep up the good work guys!! You definitely have my support!

I am shocked that this website does not fact check anything. I have read four reviews on here that by simply fact checking our blatant lies. How can a website say they are helping non profits allow negative reviews of something that hasn't opened for business. I am appalled at there lack of integrity. I have seen the work and money that the lamica family has put into building this non profit. They are wonderful people trying to give back to there fellow veterans. The longhorns hideout is a labor of love for them. A big Thank you for all you are doing from this disabled Marine Veteran.

Joe and Carol, of the Longhorn Hideout Retreat, are what one would describe as high quality people with immense integrity. I have had the pleasure of experiencing them as neighbors (helping care give our animals in the most needed of times!) and know them to live and breathe their mission to serve and support veterans. I am grateful to the people in this world who are dedicated to their mission to serve; and especially to those that want to give back to the people that have given everything to serve us. Thank you Joe and Carol for the example that you are to all of us.

I have crossed this nation consulting various "not for profit groups" that in some way or another have made a contribution to our veterans. This one is different I have talked to all walks of citizens older, younger, veterans and non veterans they all had one thing in common concerning this non profit, it is a no go. We as a group and as independent business experts see no forward movement of this charitable 501 listed as such. Your contributions would be better used at a viable healthy and fully disclosed veterans associated functionary.

Thank you for your comment. We feel your expertise as "independent business experts" might not be relevant in the non-profit world, as business experts have insight and expertise in companies that have a goal of raising funds, and as a non-profit, our goal is to give back to our Veterans and their families, that sacrifice so much to keep our country safe... not to line their pockets. Again, thank you for your concern, but we are more interested in the input and expertise of people in this specific field. However, if you would like to come visit once we open, please contact us at longhornhideout@gmail.com

Has anyone really been to the visitor center, It's a house on a desert lot where do you let guests stay and where are the rooms for veterans to stay with their families ? How much does the founders want to get paid for doing this shady deal, better to check this place out fully SKETCHY !!!

Thank you for inquiring about our Non-Profit. We have not officially opened our doors to host families, and are almost entirely self-funded, so we certainly are not in this for any sort of financial gains. We will make sure to keep everyone updated as we progress. We would gladly answer any of your specific questions directly. Feel free to email us at longhornhideout@gmail.com

I am repeating what happened to my brother and i with this supposed non-profit, my brother lost both of his legs in Iraq and we take trips for him to have some kind of life, we showed up at this place and found out nothing is there as stated on their website. We drove all the way from back east to be totally disappointed no place to stay, no ramps for his wheelchair, no visitor center ( somebodies house-kind of dumpy too) just a big let down STAY AWAY THIS IS NOT A REAL RETREAT- BEWARE!!!!!

Josh, First off, we thank your brother for his service. We truly love all of our Veterans, and appreciate all he has sacrificed for our country. We honor him. We are sorry to learn that you drove across the country to visit us. Unfortunately, we are not officially open to the public, nor have we sent any invites to any families yet. Any information you have heard is false, and if you care to share where you got this information, we would love to clear this up. We would love for you to experience the Hideout, so if you would like to officially become an applicant to be considered once we open our doors, please email us at longhornhideout@gmail.com.
