To whom it may concern,
I am a new intern at LICADD and in less than a month, I participated in an intervention,
I have had the opportunity to participate in an AIDS forum and co-facilitate an anger management group for veterans.
These were not things I intended to become involved in but have grown through the experiences.
I was able to use skills I was not even aware that I had.
I can't even imagine what I can be responsible for or capable of in months to come.
I will be able to look back on these experiences and see how my professional network and skill set developed directly through my LICADD internship.

Hi. My name is Brent Russell. I interned at LICADD for a year, my last in school. I now have my MSW from Adelphi. I found LICADD to be a great atmosphere to learn and grow. It was here where I really felt like I was part of a team. That is how we worked at LICADD, as a clinical team. There was no one there that I did not feel comfortable with asking questions and getting support. I developed important skills at LICADD, such as assessment, engaging my client, Anger Management, group skills and the laws about privacy; and so much more. On top of that I have built relationships with the staff at LICADD that i will never forget. I am grateful for my time at LICADD and wouldn't change it if I had to do it all over again.

In just a few weeks as an intern, I have learned more than I thought was possible. I am now aware that Long Island is in the midst of a substance abuse epidemic and I am amazed with the hard work and dedication of the staff and volunteers at LICADD who put so much time and effort into reducing this issue. The clinicians at LICADD do a wonderful job of catering to each client's individual needs without judgement. I am very lucky to have this opportunity to learn from such a knowledgeable, passionate team of clinicians.
I am having an incredible experience at LICADD. While at first I was a bit overwhelmed by how much I had to learn, the clinicians have been so incredibly welcoming and helpful in guiding me through the process. In my previous internships I did not feel like I had the kind of supportive, educational environment we have here. My first week I was terrified to answer the phones but the clinicians gave me the confidence and the tools to feel comfortable helping the clients or admitting that I did not know all of the answers. I really appreciate that Steve meets with the interns weekly to discuss different therapy tools, current events, and harm reduction. I also think it is incredible that LICADD invites the interns help facilitate various community events and workshops. I am really excited about what is to come and I am grateful that I have this amazing opportunity learn so much about social work, individual therapy, group facilitation's, community outreach, referrals and advocacy.
