The Legendary Mustang Sanctuary in Alhambra, IL is dedicated to the rescue and recovery of America's historic wild mustang horses and burros. Without rescue, these great national treasures will be lost to the ages of American history. Kathy & Shawn Lewis, Co-Founders of the Sanctuary are both licensed mustang trainers and place all their energies on rescuing, recovering and winning the trust of each animal with the goal of placing them in permanent loving adoptive homes.
The Legendary Mustang Sanctuary has a 100% successful adoption placement rate. I am a volunteer for the Sanctuary and I can tell you that the facility and operations are operated with only volunteers; there are no paid staff! 100% of all donations go toward the rescues and recovery of America's historic treasures. not only do they rescue these animals, but they also offer furthering educational opportunities by way of internships for students of Veterinary Medicine and Equine Sciences.

I was lucky enough to meet the owners of the Legendary Mustang Sanctuary at a movie screening/fundraiser event in St. Louis, and then visit their facility. I was highly impressed with their knowledge of the history of these American icons and their highly effective training methods. They are truly compassionate about what they do, and adopt third strike horses that might have wound up in the slaughter pipeline or lost forever in some long term holding facility of the BLM. As I witnessed the training with potential adopters, I was amazed at the quickness with which these wonderful animals are able to connect with their human partners. I was happy to hear that they take every precaution to ensure that the horses and adopters are a good match, but will take the horses back if things do not work out. I highly recommend supporting the Legendary mustang Sanctuary!
