Causes: Crime & Law, Legal Services
Mission: Legal services of eastern missouri advances justice through legal representation, education and supportive services. We partner with the community to improve lives, promote fairness and create opportunities for those in need.
Programs: In 2017, legal services of eastern missouri ("lsem") helped 1,768 low income clients which also assisted their household members. The civil legal help included issues in the areas of public benefits, unemployment, health, education, family reunification, consumer, immigration, entrepreneur and/or nonprofit, and elder. Lsem provided 29,989 hours of legal case services to these direct clients and their household members through its staff and volunteers. Additionally, lsem provided community legal education to the client community and other service providers in these substantive areas, along with outreach, legal information materials, and referrals to other resources, which indirectly helped another 11,067 people.
in 2017, lsem helped 1,252 low income clients who were the victims of domestic violence, which also assisted their household members. Direct services to our clients included protective orders, divorce, custody, paternity, child and spousal support. Lsem staff provided 21,847 hours of legal case services to these direct clients and their household members through its staff and volunteers. Additionally, lsem provided community legal education to the client community and other service providers in these substantive areas, along with outreach, legal information materials, and referrals to other resources, which indirectly helped another 3,968 people.
in 2017, lsem helped 867 low income clients which also assisted their household members in the areas of homeless prevention and housing disputes. A total of 14,963 hours of direct legal case service was provided by our staff and volunteers. Additionally, lsem provided community legal education to the client community and other service providers in these substantive areas, along with outreach, legal information materials, and referrals to other resources, which indirectly helped another 1,023 people.
