Mission: Vlsc provides free direct legal assistance to alameda countys low-income population by mobilizing volunteer attorneys to provide pro bono service.
Programs: In 2017 vlsc provided pro bono legal services to over 2,700 low-income litigants in alameda county. Litigants were assisted at pro per legal clinics in a variety of civil legal areas including family law, bankruptcy, landlord/tenant and guardianship, among others. At these clinics, volunteers provided legal education and assistance with document preparation. Volunteer attorneys also provided full scope pro bono assistance to low and moderate income small businesses and micro-entrepreneurs throughout the bay area. Finally, 12 attorneys participated in vlscs bay area legal incubator program, which mentors and trains newer attorneys as they open solo practices aimed at providing in part low fee legal services to clients of modest means.
