Mission: The league works towards achieving its mission by: advocating for the lake by ensuring strong environmental protections through smart policy development. We do this through participating in local and regional policy creation and implementation and working closely with local, state and federal policy makers. Educating and engaging the public about how to protect lake tahoe. We do this through our volunteer stewardship projects, social events and publications. Collaborating with agencies and organizations to find solutions to environmental challenges at lake tahoe. We do this through collaborating on aquatic invasive species reduction projects, participating in technical and science working groups, and involving agencies in our volunteer projects. Programs: Advocate: in current year staff attended 194 advocacy meetings with stakeholders and the community. Of these, 51 were working groups, 37 were public and 25 where with elected officials. We submitted 20 public comment letters aimed at promoting good environmental policy. We were instrumental in ensuring the final draft of the placer county area plan had strong protections for lake tahoe. In addition, the leagues advocacy work was key for the passage of lake tahoe restoration act before the end of the current congressional session. Educate: in current year we engaged just under 7000 community members through our citizen science programs, outreach events and presentations. 1005 volunteers contributed 3914 hours to helping keep tahoe blue. We taught 2307 students in four school districts through our blue school programs through classroom education as well as field trips. Through our volunteer beach cleanup program we collected 3,683 pounds of trash and cleaned up 42 miles of shoreline. We marked 30 drains in two jurisdictions through our storm drain marking events. 124 volunteers participated in our tahoe forest stewardship day program in which we restored 3650 feet of stream back, restored 750 feet of trail and treated 3 acres of forest. 2135 visitors visited our keep tahoe blue education center. Through our print and electronic publications, our social media and personal outreach we educate our members and elected leaders on current issues facing the lake and promote solutions for tackling these issues. Collaborate: in current year we successfully partnered with 10 businesses through our blue business program in an effort to provide support for local tahoe businesses to be more sustainable in their practices to better protect lake tahoe. We collaborated with the tahoe keys property owners association to provide input to support their draft integrated weed management plan. Through our eyes on the lake program we working marinas to conduct surveys onsite for aquatic invasive species. We held 31 trainings and certified 349 volunteers to identify aquatic invasive plants in lake tahoe. Our volunteers conducted 712 surveys through which we were able to detect 7 new infestations. We held two forums for our pipe keepers program and monitored 16 pipes. Communicate: in current year we completed a full refresh of our website. We maintained 14000 email subscribers. Our programs and advocacy work were highlighted in 96 news articles and we appeared in 28 tv interviews. We produced 4 videos to educate engage the public to help keep tahoe blue.
