Causes: Health, Health Care
Mission: To serve as an advocate for latinos in gaining access to culturally and linguistically competent health care in san bernardino county. Represent and serve the interest of its members and promote public education.
Programs: In the past year latino health collaborative (lhc) has had many accomplishments as a consequence of the strength built with the merger. Here are some of these accomplishments:healthy san bernardino is an active community coalition that promotes healthy eating, lifestyles, and environments. The committee is also developing a food access initiative, engaging business partners, retailers and government entities to work together to increase access of health food for under served areas in san bernardino. Lhc delivered five san bernardino strider's leadership trainings in 2012, two in english and three in spanish, with a total participation of 40 community leaders. This is a community wellness program that combines physical activity, health education and advocacy, to improve the health of san bernardino residents and advocate for health improvements in the community. Currently we have 12-spanish speaking community leaders in the program. Kick-off of the san bernardino strider's program celebrated with the participation of 300 community members and 20 partners. A total of 25 young volunteers supporting the efforts of the coalition. Health hubs are a place-based initiative in san bernardino where multiple partners are collaborating to improve the health of the community. Fourteen health hubs have been identified in the city of san bernardino. The san bernardino strider's program has been developing around these health hubs to coordinate community groups and advocacy efforts throughout the city. Healthy muscoy initiative had over 60 community partners who participated by offering health services to the community, we had an attendance of over 600 where community members were introduced to services that were very needed such as dental care and health screenings.
