Mission: Liaa is a community service organization working to increase the sustainability of communities and expand civic engagement. Our mission statement is: helping people to shape better communities through: participation, education, information and effective use of technology.
Programs: During the year, we worked with communities in michigan to foster and support community-wide planning efforts that lead to the adoption of significant revisions to existing master plans to promote community resilience in the face of rapid economic changes and increasing climate variability. We worked with coastal communities throughout the state to develop trail town manuals as well as completed a state of michigan water trails manual. We completed a project to assess and strengthen the knowledge, capacity and commitment of local governments needed to manage coastal wetlands effectively. As part of our mission, liaa provides technical support, leadership training and facilitation services to other nonprofits and many local units of government. We also provide web site design, development and or/hosting services to over 50 governmental units and nonprofits.
