Lamukani Usa Inc

Programs: Lamukani usa supports rural development initiatives in kilifi county of kenya (formerly malindi district). This support is primarily directed to an independent kenyan non-governmental organization (ngo), mulangaza integrated development program. Through this program approximately 50 rural communities were assisted during the past year. The primary focus has been the implementation of programs targeted to build the capacity of these communities to work together and address their development needs. Additional support goes to a hiv/aids orphans program, wavizi community initiative.

in order to improve community capacity building efforts, a self-help group program has been ongoing for over four years. The program has organized, trained and empowered over 2,000 women in approximately 50 rural communities. The aim of the program is to alleviate the impact of poverty and improve the home lives of women and their families through savings and small business creation. As a result of this program, women through their own efforts, have improved household living conditions, generated income to pay school fees for their children,paid for medical treatment for their children and improved household nutrition and health standards. In addition the program has taught these groups drought tolerant agricultural practices, trained community health workers and mediated discussions on social issues such as early marriage and domestic abuse cases. Additional funding has been provided to assist over 200 orphans whose parents have died of hiv-aids. A new higher education program was initiated this year with the aim of assisting deserving students who qualified for university admission. As a result eight students have enrolled in universities throughout kenya.
