Mission: The mission of lamplighters music theatre is to share our enthusiasm and love for the works of w. S. Gilbert and arthur sullivan through productions of their comic operas and of other works of comparable wit, literacy and musical merit. Our company strives to enrich the lives of current and future theatre-goers with productions of the highest artistic quality, and to offer performance opportunities in the unique style of classic music theatre to established and emerging artists alike. Through youth training, programs in schools and community outreach, the lamplighters aspire to develop young talent and encourage people of all ages to explore the comic appeal and deep musical rewards of this repertoire.
Programs: Lamplighters music theatre performed the gilbert & sullivan operettas "the pirates of penzance" and "the grand duke" as well as the operetta "candide" before audiences totaling 15,182 people. Performances were in san francisco, walnut creek, mountain view and livermore. The annual company-written fundraising gala was performed in two venues (mountain view and san francisco) and drew audiences of 974.
lamplighters offers a broad adult and student education program. The adult program consists of masterclasses and workshops. The student program consists of an in-school assembly program and two mini-residency programs for students of all ages. Approximately 4,000 children participated in this program. The lamplighters also offer a two-week "gilbert & sullivan scenes" program in collaboration with the san francisco conservatory of music. 40 children ages 10-18 studied and performed fully-staged excerpts from the works of gilbert & sullivan before audiences of 450. We also offer a strong outreach program, and several appearances were made for for private and community groups.
