Mission: Realizing that God has blessed us abundantly, we feel the obligation to help His other children who are in dire need. Our purpose is to be “a place of hope” to the destitute of Africa, providing resources not normally available. Our goal is to empower the people to care for their own needs.
Results: Lalmba's medical programs include both clinics and mobile health services to remote areas. These serve a population of over 150,000 people in areas where little or no other healthcare is available or affordable. These medical programs have more than 55,000 patient visits for illness and injury (including HIV) each year, and another 18,000 for preventive care, such as prenatal, well-baby exams, and immunizations. Lalmba cares for nearly 1600 orphans in three countries. Children's Homes provide complete care for 53 of these children who are the most at-risk. The rest live with guardian families, most of whom also need the financial assistance this guardianship arrangement provides. Lalmba provides food, clothes, school supplies and medical care for orphans with guardians. The community loan program provides small loans to 25-35 local businesspeople, both women and men. These loans enable single mothers to become self-sufficient and help fathers provide for their families. Many of these loan recipients become successful enough to provide jobs for others.
Target demographics: Lalmba works with some of the poorest people groups of Ethiopia, Kenya and Eritrea. Our goal is to help those who have no resources to help themselves. At-risk children aged 3-17 is a main focus. Healthcare and relief services are primarily given to "subsistence farmers", those living on less than a dollar a day.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Lalmba provides over 100,000 services each year. It's hard to get a good estimate on individual people in places where there is no ID (not even any birth or death records), but we estimate we serve more than 40,000 individuals each year.
Geographic areas served: Very rural areas in east Africa
