As a former employee of Ladder Up, I am always proud to share that I used to work for this organization. They not only work tirelessly to help Chicagoans living on low incomes get their taxes done accurately and for free, but also to educate the youth in Chicago on financial literacy and financial aid for their higher education pursuits. Ladder Up has wonderful volunteers and employees, and I'd encourage anyone to get involved with them, whether it be as a volunteer, donor, board member, or as a school/organization to bring in their youth education programs.

Mission: The organization helps low-income families and individuals access the financial resources they need to climb up the economic ladder. The organization offers free tax preparation, financial aid and financial literacy services.
Programs: Through its tax assistance program, the organization prepares individual income tax returns for low-income families and individuals to help them secure valuable tax refunds. In 2017, the organization prepared over 10,000 tax returns with the help of 1,049 volunteers, enabling clients to secure $16 million in tax refunds.
through its life-improving financial tools (lift) program, the organization helps students apply for financial aid for postsecondary education and learn financial basics to develop a foundation for sound financial decision-making. During fiscal year 2016-17, the organization helped over 1,000 students apply for financial aid through submission of the free application for federal student aid (fafsa), provided financial aid information and support to 6,500 students and parents, educated 3,000 individuals through financial education workshops, and provided one-on-one financial coaching to over 200 individuals.
