Causes: Food, Home Economics
Mission: To use food as an agent of social & economic change to generate workforce & economic development in minority communities through culinary arts & job readiness training, vocational english instruction, life skills development, job placement, & culinary & food safety certifications
Programs: To date since the beginning of our operations in 2014 and after finishing 12 cohorts with 92 students graduating from our programs, we have obtained 95% of completion rate and 85% of job placement. Our indicators show 78% retention rate of our graduates placed in jobs over one year with an average hourly rate of $13. 50. Data collected from students at beginning of the program shows that the ones that were working then were earning an average hourly rate of $9. 00. During 2017 the students of the culinary training program have prepared more than 12,000 healthy meals that have been donated to other neighbors in need.
