Mission: The mission of kcceb is to empower the korean american and other communities of the bay area through education, advocacy, service and the development of community-based resources.
Programs: In may 2017, kcceb launched bay area korean information (baki) line, the only dedicated korean/english bilingual information and referral helpline in the bay area to link koreans with limited english proficiency (lep) with social, health and immigration resources. Between may 8, 2017 and december 21, 2017, baki has handled 4,086 calls. In 2017, over 6,000 asians access kccebs programs; 75% of our clients are koreans, followed by chinese (11%), japanese (9%), mongolian (4%) and other (1%). Programs provided covered 6 major areas: 1) form filling and navigation support in social services, 2) healthcare enrollment and health literacy education including oral health, 3) domestic violence survivors case management, 4) immigration legal services, 5) substance use(tobacco) intervention and prevention program, 6) mental health stigma reduction and community leadership development program. Based on seven priority issue areas identified through the only disaggregated study published by kcceb in 2016, kcceb has led local advocacy efforts, making korean as one of the priority populations in alameda county in mental health, and resulting in first disaggregated korean population study by santa clara county public health dept. In 2017, out of many advocacy wins.
