California was formed in 2000 (and incorporatedin 2003) tocelebrate klezmer music and Yiddish culture in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ourfocus is on the cultural heritage of Eastern European Jewry, as embodied in itsmusic, literature, and the arts. KlezCalifornia events enable people of allages to engage actively and intensely with Yiddish culture — participating, notjust watching others perform as a passive audience.
Programs: - Participatory, family-friendly weekend intensives with Jewish Community Centers and large synagogues- One-evening "Tastes of Yiddish Culture"- Yiddish Culture Curriculum project- "Gele Pages", Bay Area Yiddish Culture Yellow Pages- "Khevruse Directory", enabling people to find "activity partners" to speak or read Yiddish, play klezmer, etc.- Recording of culturally significant Jewish music.
