Mission: KCW's mission is to excite Washington, DC's underserved youth about the joy and relevance of learning. KCW offers kids after school programs that combine multi-media technology, good teaching and opportunities to have fun while improving reading, writing and math skills. KCW was founded in 1997 by DC-area parents, educators and professionals as an all-volunteer effort to teach academic and computer skills to a group of 15 Anacostia teens. Today, KCW, as 501(c)(3) organization, serves over 400 at-risk kids annually at three locations, two in Anacostia (Simon Elementary School and Hendley Elementary School) and one in Shaw (Anthony Bowen YMCA).
Programs: KCW differs from other after school programs in that it promotes academic growth, yet keeps students excited and engaged. We accomplish this by staffing the program with the best and brightest school teachers trained educators who know how to inspire learning. And we provide those educators with an innovative curriculum designed by KCW that engages kids using technology.
