Mission: The mission of kasa: kindness america-sendai alliance is to inspire kindness in everyday lives, create a community network of affiliates between america and sendai japan educating young adults through immersion and cultural exchange programs hosted abroad.

Programs: St. Joseph's catholic church concert & fundraiser (spreading awareness in america post 3/11/11) on sunday, april 1st, madi sato offered a concert to honor the one year memorial of the devastating tsunami and earthquake in northeastern japan. The concert was held at the beautiful st. Joseph's catholic church in cerrillos, new mexico. Madi opened the event with a traditional shinto chant called the amatsunorito (heavenly prayer). Through the concert, her beautiful singing was accompanied by the powerful and sacred sounds of taiko drums (koji nakamura and crestone kaminari taiko) , koto (yukiko matsuyama), piano (john rangel), and poetry (timothy p. Mclaughlin. ) the music was deeply felt by all in attendance and universally understood as a great prayer of compassion, healing, and love for the people and lands of japan.

funakoshi shotokan karate association world karate championships on september 15, 2012 kasa participated at this event with a booth accepting donations to continue our mission in japan. We provided kindness bracelets (with japanese & american flag) to the attendees.

art program overview: kasa: kindness america-sendai alliance, inc launched an arts program for the residents of the tohoku region. The program will provide residents of temporary housing communities with supplies to create japanese cultural artwork, including calligraphy, umbrellas, lacquer boxes, handbags, weaving baskets, bracelets, and crocheted or knitted goods. We hope this program will offer a positive creative outlet for the japanese still displaced from their homes by the 2011 disaster as well as generate some revenue for their essential needs.

I had the opportunity to serve as a volunteer with this organization in Sendai Japan. It was an amazing experience connecting with the residents living in the temporary housing communities in Sendai. I would enjoy being a volunteer with this organization in the future.
